Statement from McCrary Institute Director Frank Cilluffo on Congress' extension of vital cybersecurity protections
The McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical infrastructure Security released a statement from Director Frank Cilluffo in response to Congress renewing the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Act of 2015 and the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program in its short-term funding bill to end a record 43-day government shutdown:
“Tonight brought a sense of relief to those in the cybersecurity community as two vital provisions were reauthorized. I applaud Congress for reauthorizing the essential liability protections for cyber threat information sharing as well as the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program. The impact of these programs for critical infrastructure owners and operators – and our national and economic security – cannot be overstated. But this is only a short-term fix. Congress must move quickly to enact longer-term reauthorizations to provide the continuity needed to defend and protect critical systems from growing cybersecurity threats.”
